The small classroom environment encourages a sense of wonder, gratitude and reverence for all life. Though daily rhythms, celebrations and yearly events, an atmosphere of harmony and joy is brought to the classroom. Each child is encouraged to develop a balanced and healthy imagination. Through the practice of concentration, visualization, cheerfulness and a serviceful attitude, the children expand their sympathies beyond their little selves and learn to recognize the highest qualities in themselves and one another.
A Typical Day in our “Kinderkid Class”
- Welcome to class: put your things away, wash hands, check-in
- Join us for creative/discovery play, conversational language, journaling
- Circle time: “Hello“ songs, calming bodies, name guessing games (using phonemes), job chart, calendar math, story, singing
- Snack/recess
- Specialists: Monday-drama, Tuesday-Music, Thursday-French, Friday-Yoga and “once a month art specialist”
- Lunch/conversation
- Outdoor exploration (may include walks, exploring our neighborhood)
- Centers: class pet observation, dramatic play, science/discovery, creative art, block play, D.E.A.R. (drop everything and read)
- Good-bye circle: show and tell, story, reflect on our day, “Go With Love” song
This is just a working outline… I take my cue from the children and when their needs or curiosity take us in a different direction, I will adjust and follow their interests.
