Parents, neighbors and the children of Living Wisdom School-Seattle worked together to create a model organic garden, complete with a compost and worm bins. Designed as raised beds close to the entrance of the school, the garden adds a great deal of beauty to the grounds, bountiful harvests, and a myriad of learning opportunities!
Led by LWS parent Leslie Mouton and other volunteer gardeners, children at all grade levels learn the art of organic gardening — all while working with their hands and feet, learning to cooperate with others, and gaining an appreciation for growing (and eating) their own food.
On a weekly basis, the children tend to the raised garden beds. Whether it’s weeding, composting, mowing, mulching, recycling, watering, or especially harvesting, there’s also work to do, to keep the garden alive throughout all seasons!
