Chess Club
The Chess Club meets once a week after school in the multipurpose room. Membership in the chess club is FREE and available to all current students of Living Wisdom School. It is open to students of all levels, from the very beginners to the more advanced. The casual play atmosphere is inviting to siblings, parents, and caregivers alike. Observing a game in progress can be quite a spectator sport too! Players are matched according to their level of ability as much as possible. Children can bring their own set or can use one of ours. Instruction is available and offered.and learning for all!
Living Wisdom Schools are based on the Education For Life system: a holistic system of education which emphasizes experiential learning, spiritual development, and practical skills for living such as concentration, self-discipline and compassion.
The first Living Wisdom School was established in Nevada City, California 34 years ago. Today there is a network of Living Wisdom Schools located in Nevada City, Palo Alto and Sacramento, CA; Portland, OR; and Seattle, WA.
Organic Garden at LWS
With the help of parents, neighbors and the children, LWS has a model organic garden. Raised beds close to the entrance of the school prove to be useful and beautiful. Our curriculum includes using this as a teaching tool in many different venues. Volunteer gardeners also do special lessons for all grade levels. Included also is recycling and a compost and worm bin.
Much fun and learning for all!
